At the age of 27, Errol Fabien realized that as a drug addict he needed help. According to him, the circumstances which brought this realization home were very dramatic indeed. Errol would look for things in his house to sell to get money to support his addiction.
He related that, one day, he discovered that he had sold everything that could be sold and there was nothing left for him to sell. He was at home with his three baby girls, ages one, two, and three, one morning. His wife had gone to work. Out of desperation for a fix, he looked at the youngest baby, took the gold earrings from her ears, and travelled miles away to get them sold. When he returned, his children were screaming and messy. It was then that Errol realized that he needed to be liberated from his own “messy” condition.
His wife took him to a drug rehabilitation center where, over time he was eventually cured, but not without much resistance on his part. Thanks to the determination of his wife to have him “cleaned”, that today, thirty years after rehabilitation, Errol is totally drug free.
Errol wants to make a difference in the lives of all who are bound, not just by drug addiction, but addictions of any and every kind. To do this, he has launched a project of visiting countries of the Caribbean and literally walking in silent meditation and praying to whom he refers to as “A Greater Power”.
Anguilla is the 7th of 15 countries that are on his Walk To Freedom schedule. So far, he has been to Cuba, Belize, Jamaica, Haiti, St, Kitts, Antigua, and now Anguilla.
Mr. Fabien’s walk took place on Wednesday August 22, and covered a period of two hours. His mission to Anguilla was under the auspices of the Anguilla Christian Council and the Anguilla Evangelical Association, in partnership with the national PAVE (Partners Advocating for Violence Eradication) program.
