Fifteen students of St. Dominic High School’s International Baccalaureate Programme on the island of St. Maarten visited the Anguilla Animal Rescue Foundation Shelter and Adoption Centre on Tuesday morning June 26th. As part of their program the students focussed on allocating their time and energy to the benefit of others. At the shelter the volunteers spent their time socializing the shelter puppies and kittens as well as helping with their feeding, cleaning of their kennels and baths.
AARF Adoptions Chairperson, Samantha Jefferson, Rhaine Gumbs of Morlens Veterinary Clinic and Sandy Hunt AARF volunteer assisted the visitors showing them the shelter and discussed proper safety procedures to protect the puppies from parvo. The students also spent time with the puppies in the puppy play yard as well as with a new litter of puppies and kittens at the shelter.
Suzie Donahue, AARF Shelter contact, thanked the volunteers for coming and for their donations of food and toys for the shelter kittens and puppies. She also took the opportunity to stress the importance of volunteering, noting not only the benefits to the shelter animals, but also the joy of giving back that volunteerism provides.
