The first cohort of the Occupational Health and Safety Class at the UWI Open Campus Anguilla will conclude the course with their participation in the tenth staging of the All Hazard Risk Reduction and Safety Fair on Friday, June 22, 2018. The group, consisting of fourteen students from the public and private sectors, will use the opportunity to engage adults and children using audio-visual aids.

According to facilitator, Ms. Shenique Clare, the participation in the Safety Fair is a fitting end to the delivery of this course, as it provides an opportunity for the participants to spread the safety message about ambassadorship, safety and the law, and the overall importance of safety.

The ten-week professional development course was launched by the UWI Open Campus Anguilla in collaboration with the Anguilla Electricity Company (Anglec) and the Department of Disaster Management in March 2018. It focused on raising awareness and implementing techniques to help build a culture of safety. The course also examined current and pending legislation and provided participants with the necessary tools to develop procedures to control risks to health and safety risks within their organisations.

Course participants, Melissa Hodge, Jocelyne Mills, Arnie “Ash” Hodge, Ambrell Richardson, Susan Hodge, Nishara Payne, Melody Hodge, Dana Ruan, Omari Bourne, Stedroy Connor, Churaman Onkar, Rhonda Hodge, Suzanna Proctor and Axa Webster, will operate an Occupational Health and Safety Booth at the Safety Fair and will also perform their safety jingle.
