One of the eagerly-awaited and crowded functions of the Anguilla Day celebrations is the Government-sponsored luncheon for senior citizens from the four residential homes as well as the community at large.
Over three hundred of those guests were entertained on Wednesday, May 30, at the Blue Ridge Convention Centre, at South Hill, overlooking the scenic Road Bay Harbour where the Round the Island Boat Race, another popular event, began and terminated.
The caterers for the luncheon were English Rose and E’s Oven Restaurants whose staff, as well as Government employees, served the senior citizens.
Speakers were Governor Tim Foy, Chief Minister, Victor Banks, Minister of Home Affairs, Mrs. Cora Richardson-Hodge and former Chief Minister Mr. Hubert Hughes.
Commenting on the luncheon, Chief Minister Banks told The Anguillian: “While it is a time for fellowship, I think our people also look forward to this occasion because they recognise the importance of celebrating Anguilla Day. I was grateful to have had the opportunity to meet some of them, whom I have not seen for a long time, and to know that they are really happy about this opportunity. Happy Anguilla Day to all.”
Following the sumptuous luncheon, there was mass-dancing to string-band music in an atmosphere of much enjoyment, camaraderie and fellowship.
