Additional funding of just over £1.9 million (approximately EC $8m) has been secured from the UK government’s Global Britain Fund –Overseas Territories Disaster Management Programme (GBF-DMP). This funding is in additional to the £60 million grant funding which was announced last November and will cover critical disaster resilience work which had been slated to be part of the original £60m grant.
Work has already started on the repairs to critical Government of Anguilla infrastructure which includes equipment and repairs to hurricane shelters and the National Emergency Operation Centre. Additional funding will also come from this programme to fund the replacement and the up-grading of essential resilience equipment for the Department of Disaster management, Immigration, Customs, Court House, Her Majesty’s Prison and other the emergency services (RAPF/AFRS) needs.
The GBF-DM programme has also allocated £30,000 (approx EC $124,000.) to improve the resilience of the Government of Anguilla’s information technology network.
Work is now in train to ensure completion of these projects by the end of August.
