The male population across Anguilla – boys, young men and adult men – came in for special mention and prayer in church services across the island on Father’s Day on Saturday and Sunday, June 16 and 17.
This year, for the first time, the Church of God (Holiness) on the Queen Elizabeth Avenue, a member of the Anguilla Evangelical Association, partnered with the Gender Affairs Unit in the Ministry of Social Development for a number of activities for Men’s Week – a fitting event for Father’s Day observance. The activities at the Church were under the title “A Father’s Cry”.
It was also arranged for seventeen men, honoured as part of Men’s Week 2018, to attend a special service at the Church. The Minister, Pastor Philip Gumbs, is among those honoured by the Gender Affairs Unit for their varied roles in the community.
In delivering his sermon, entitled “Warriors, Priests and Kings”, Pastor Gumbs stressed the responsibility and leadership roles required of men in their communities and homes. He urged them to be real men who can be looked to by their families and others as leaders.
Dr. Ronya Foy-Connor, Coordinator of Gender Affairs and organiser of Men’s Week 2018, told the congregation: “We are focusing on the theme: ‘Committed to Change: Men in Enterprising Endeavours’. It is a pleasure to partner with the Anguilla Evangelical Association for the Father’s Cry activities which I know many of you attended. I thank the Association and the Church for approaching Gender Affairs to be part of our initiative for Men’s Week 2018, and we are pleased to join in the celebration.”
