At the start of graduation season 2018, six students graduated from the Maranatha Methodist Preschool on Tuesday 19th June 2018 under the theme ‘Shining Lights’. The ceremony held at the Maranatha Methodist Church commenced promptly at 5 pm. The students comprised three girls: Daniella Abbott, Raenijah Carty and Kennicia Rogers; and three boys: Daniel Abbott, Alexis Barnes and Jayden Hughes, all ready to enter primary school in September.
The attendees at the ceremony, which included parents, extended family members and well-wishers, were welcomed by Rev. Dr. Wycherley Gumbs.
The ceremony was chaired by Ms. Judy Connor and featured various poems and songs by the graduates.
The school’s report, delivered by Tr. Norma Maccow, highlighted among other things the setbacks of the school year. She stated, “This year was a challenging one, with the passing of Hurricane Irma – the late opening of the school and the replacement of windows of the school. We had to operate with limited supplies and conditions but, despite the conditions, we worked hard in preparing our children for their future learning as they enter primary school.”
The graduates were encouraged by guest speaker, Ms. Marian Abbott, to keep up the good work. And she urged parents to “be present in your child life. They need you more than ever before.” She went on, “I am charging you, parents, to step back in the old days and play with your child. Put down the technology and pick up a ball…and impact your child positively.”
The graduates were presented with their certificates and prayed for by Rev. Wilmoth Hodge and the vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Tamika Williams.
