The Ministry and Department of Education express sincere gratitude to Mrs. Joyce Webster-Stuart for her service as Principal of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School over the past three years. Mrs. Stuart has demonstrated calm and compassionate leadership during her tenure and made efforts to promote a more student-centered approach to the delivery of education at the ALHCS. Heartfelt thanks are expressed to her as she prepares to officially leave office on 10th August 2018.
The Ministry and Department of Education also announced the appointment of Mrs. Rita Celestine-Carty as Principal of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School (ALHCS) with effect from 13th August 2018.
Mrs. Carty is a dedicated educator. She first started teaching at the ALHCS in 1988 as a member of both the Modern Languages and English Departments. More recently, she served as Head of the English Department for a decade and a half and then as Deputy Principal- Pastoral for the past three years.
Mrs. Carty is the holder of a Bachelor of Arts Degree (with Honours) from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, a Master’s Degree (with distinction) from the Université des Antilles-Guyane in Schoelcher, Martinique, and a Certificate in Secondary Education from the University of the West Indies. Mrs. Carty has also benefited from many training and developmental opportunities locally and regionally. She is presently pursuing another Master’s Degree, this time online, in the area of Educational Leadership and Management, with the University of London.
Mrs. Carty is indeed committed to education in Anguilla and says of her new role in this sector:
“I do look forward to continuing to serve the Anguillian community and the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School. I feel very attached to and proud of our School. Despite all its shortcomings, it is consistent in striving to cater to all secondary school age students on the island (bar none) allowing each an opportunity to excel and to develop into responsible individuals with the skills and attributes to contribute positively toward Anguillian society and the world beyond Anguilla.
“Of course the task is daunting, but it is achievable with the conscious collaboration of all. It is evident to me that no principal can be successful in leading a school without the significant contributions of teachers, parents, the community at large and indeed the students themselves. As such, I take this opportunity to urge all to realize that when we uphold the ALHCS, accord it our respect, our goodwill and our full support, all of our children benefit, our community grows and our nation develops.
“With God’s help, I will certainly continue to do my part.”
As Mrs. Carty takes the reins of leadership she is assured of the support of the education officials in the Ministry and Department of Education. Parents, guardians and the entire community are encouraged to also support her and the staff of the ALHCS. It is only with the support of all stakeholders that ALHCS can continue to improve and meet the needs of its diverse student population.
