The land space at Long Bay, where Shimei Tabernacle of Seventh-day Adventists once stood, is now bare, and the only tell-tale sign that a church building once occupied there is the still standing tombstones.

Shimei Tabernacle was completely destroyed by Hurricane Irma on September 6, 2017. Its ruins were demolished on Sunday, April 22, paving the way for the rebuilding of the edifice later on.

The destruction of the church building marks the end of an era of approximately 30 years since its erection in the late 1980s during the tenure of Pastor Haldane Davis.

Shimei Tabernacle was one of a number of church buildings severely damaged by the hurricane. Among them was the Spanish language Church of God of Prophecy (Iglesia De Dios De La Profecia) at South Hill, which was recently demolished and is being rebuilt. Several other church buildings have either been repaired or still awaiting repairs.
