A tourism-related group from the United Kingdom has visited Anguilla for the first time since Hurricane Irma and took the opportunity to go on an extensive tour of the island.
The travel group, from Virgin Atlantic and Caribtours, arrived in Anguilla on Thursday, April 12, 2018 and spent three days on the island. The trip was originally scheduled for November 2017 and was reinstated this month in an effort to support Anguilla’s strong marketing activities in the United Kingdom.
Following is the main body of a press release issued to The Anguillian on Tuesday this week by the Anguilla Tourist Board:
“The group traveled from the UK on Virgin Atlantic into Antigua and they took locally owned airline Trans Anguilla Airways into Anguilla. While on island they visited a variety of accommodations, restaurants and activity sites. The team was pleased with Anguilla’s recovery and committed to promoting the destination with the same passion and pride they have displayed in past years.
“Caribtours was also kind enough to oraganise and package 30 student packets to donate to one of the schools on the island. The Anguilla Tourist Board intends to present these packets to the Kindergarten students of the Orealia Kelly Primary School.
“Shellya Rogers-Webster, Manager Corporate Affairs at the Anguilla Tourist Board, noted: “We were very happy to host the team from Caribtours and Virgin Atlantic on the island. For many years they have been invaluable partners and this visit is a commitment to their dedication to Anguilla. We wish to thank Caribtours for their thoughtful contribution to the children of Anguilla. We look forward to building an even stronger relationship in the years to come”.
“Paul Cleary, Managing Director of Caribtours, said, “Caribtours has been promoting Anguilla for over 25 years and we were so sad last September to see the news of Hurricane Irma affecting the island. As soon as we started receiving encouraging news about hotels coming back online we became very excited about promoting the destination again. With the help of Carolyn Brown at Anguilla’s UK tourist office, we came up with a plan to bring some of the top producing travel agents from the UK over to Anguilla as soon as possible so they could see the development and progression on the island with their own eyes. We are very excited to be working with and promoting Anguilla once again, and everyone within Caribtours is committed to filling their hotels with British guests”.
