On Friday April 20th, Digicel set the stage among local telecommunication providers by launching the new and innovative LTE. This new feature gives users of Digicel mobile services the potential to gain improved wireless broadband speeds to meet increasing demand. An appreciable crowd of customers and guests were on hand to witness the spectacular launch.
Service Delivery Executive, Ms. Roxanne Webster, hosted the grand event. “I am pleased to see so many persons in one place supporting Digicel’s LTE launch, she said. “Today we are here to launch a new and exciting technology to Anguilla.

“Digicel is definitely committed to building back better, and we have done exactly that with this groundbreaking technology. We have exceeded our own expectations with this quality of technology provided by LTE, and we aim to meet the needs of every data-loving resident of Anguilla.

“It has taken a lot of hard work from our local and regional teams, and we are very thankful for their diligence through the ups and downs of getting it just right. Digicel’s strong team support and active participation have made Digicel extraordinary. Let me say to our guests that we implore you to get upgraded to LTE and enjoy using superfast broadband speeds on your mobile phone.”
In her presentation, Digicel’s CEO, Kerchelle JnCharles-Hodge, heartily welcomed the guests and made the following comments: “Welcome to the world of LTE. Welcome to the world of blazing fast speeds and the highest quality of video streaming. Welcome to the new Digicel. In 2017, we announced our Global Transformation Program whereby we made a commitment to you, our customers, to deliver an amazing network experience and to put you in control of your communication needs. This commitment became even more necessary on our island of Anguilla as we now work to re-build better and stronger, post Hurricane Irma.
“Digicel took very seriously the responsibility to provide a resilient network that is on par with international standards through our investment of EC$8.1 million in this latest technology rollout.
“As we move to broaden and accelerate internet connectivity across Anguilla, Digicel would be the first provider to offer LTE island-wide, now with the fastest mobile data network in Anguilla. Today, we look to the future and we promise our commitment to provide the best service, best value, and the best network to the people of Anguilla.”
Speaking at the gathering, Hon. Curtis Richardson, Minster responsible for Communications, said: “Seven months ago, Anguilla’s landscape changed with the passage of Hurricane Irma. Today I stand with you, excited about the opportunities that have been unlocked for the people of Anguilla through the intervention of Digicel’s 4G – LTE with its speeds and capabilities.
“Indeed, Digicel has proven its commitment to resilience and to us as Anguillians. Building back better is a commitment that we all have made for our cherished island. Digicel has proven to be united with us in this cause, in their own way. They have promised and delivered to us an amazing network experience. I am pleased and happy to be here today because that promise has been realized.”
Ms. Delvicia MacDonna, Retail Manager, stated that LTE is ten times faster than the ordinary service. She claimed that she had been privileged to use it for a while and she guaranteed that no customer would be disappointed. She also mentioned that if customers did not have LTE compatible handsets, a limited number of two types of handsets were available for sale, or that arrangements could be made for a trade-in of handsets that customers currently used. She then made the three presentations to selected individuals.
On hand for the launch event was Anguilla’s international long-jump athlete, Ms. Shara Proctor, to whom a special courtesy presentation was made. Presentations were also made to athletes of The Valley Primary School who represented the school as the victorious champions of the annual inter-school sports competitions for the past eight consecutive years. In addition, a special presentation was made to Mr. Brendon Jeffers who was Digicel’s official LTE tester.
Later throughout the day, select members of the Digicel staff participated in a colorful motorcade across the island, with stops at strategic points, to demonstrate the new Digicel feature and to bring LTE awareness to the general public.
