Greig’s Heavy Equipment Rental

Greig’s Heavy Equipment Rental (aka Greig’s Trucking) offers high-quality heavy equipment rentals and trucking service for the construction industry at a competitive price. Services include Backhoe Rental, Dozer Rental, Excavator Rental also with Hammer, Truck Rental, Crane Rental, Loader Rental, Manlift Rental, Mobile Sifter Rental, Job Handler Rental, Roller Rental, Bob Cat Rental, Garbage Removal, Mini Excavator Rental and the delivery of Land Fill, Top Soil, Gravel, Crusher Waste and Road Base. The business is located in South Hill and is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. It is closed on public holidays.

Greig developed a fascination with the heavy equipment industry at the tender age of nine years old. He clearly remembers pleading with his father to allow him to assist his cousins by driving their backhoes. Greig shared, “I never considered it as working. I was so interested with what I learnt that I knew back then, this was my calling. I gained valuable experience by working with Tracy’s Heavy Equipment and later on with Anguilla Asphalt Corporation (Derrick Romney) after completing Comprehensive School. Then, at the age of 19, I started my business with one single piece of equipment – a trailer truck. Now, after 20 years in the business and the accumulation of a wide variety of equipment, my name is synonymously known around the island as one of Anguilla’s premier heavy equipment and trucking businesses.”

The best advice Greig received that made an indelible impact on his business and life came from his father. Greig shared his wisdom. His father said: “When you see the world falling, ease back and let it fall. You can’t do anything about it.” Greig reflected further, “This has helped me to control my stress level, knowing that the things I don’t have any control over, that I should just let it be.”

The biggest challenge this business has faced is receivables where the office has had some difficulty in collecting payments for work already completed. When asked about ease of doing business in Anguilla, Greig shared, “In my opinion, it is very difficult to do business in Anguilla since the economy is not too stable.” He added, “Finding skilled labour in Anguilla creates some difficulty as well.”

Not one to dwell on the negatives, Greig acknowledged that working alongside some big corporations was a major benefit of owning his own business. However, he noted emphatically, “just knowing that I can provide for my family is the biggest benefit of all.”

His top business tip is passionate and practical. “Do what you love and you will love what you do! Also, Save Your Money!!” he declared.
Greig distinguishes himself from competitors through branding and exceptional customer service. He expounded on his philosophy, “I am a firm believer in “branding.” My fleet of trucks and my office building are all “orange.” This makes us more noticeable around the island. Additionally, we aim to offer each client exceptional service that will enable them to use our company again and again. We do all of this while living up to our motto “Dependable and Reliable Service.”

When asked about the response from the public to his business, Greig explained, “Having started my business, at a very young age, some persons admired my entrepreneurial spirit. However, certain persons would look at me and say I’m successful because of my father. These people didn’t see the struggle – they just saw the shine. They seem to not be aware of the hard work and dedication I put into this business to make it as successful as it is today.”

In 10 years, Greig sees further expansion for Greig’s Heavy Equipment Rental. He shared the vision. “I can see the business branching out heavily into construction. In that, I want us to become “your one stop shop” if you will. Providing services from the land clearing to finally handing the client the keys for their building in their hands.”
