JR DaLion, Anguilla’s hip-hop sensation, is taking the Internet by storm with his new release, ‘Honest’, which amassed more than 25,000 views during its first week on Facebook alone. Thrilled about reaching this milestone in his creative career, JR, dubbed ‘the beast in the booth’, creates his magic at Kings of the Nation Studios right here on Anguilla.
When asked about his new hit single, JR was candid. “It’s a relatable song. It’s catchy, and, well, it’s honest. We’re creating new sounds and mixing things up with different textures and beats. The creative process is inspiring, and it feels awesome to be making a tangible contribution in such a competitive industry. The aim is to climb the ranks of the alternative Caribbean music scene by melding the local genres of music including calypso, reggae, dance hall and Soca. We’re definitely catching on and it’s a great feeling. What’s incredible is that Anguilla’s population is nowhere near 25,000, so that means ‘Honest’ is gaining regional and possibly even international attention. This is something I’ve been working towards, and I’m loving the love.”
Interviewed by Radio Anguilla on Friday the 13th, JR explained his process. “The beat comes, and the flow follows. I read. I read everything. I’ll never stop saying that vocabulary is critical. I spent years with books, dictionaries and even a thesaurus to make sure I’ve got the right words. That’s the key, and I couldn’t be more emphatic about it.”
JR DaLion has been on the music scene for over a decade, and he has no plans to slow down. His new mix tape, the ‘Wavy Xperience’, will be aptly released on 04/20 at Waves Beach Bar on Meads Bay between the Four Seasons and Ocean Echo. JR will take the stage at 9 p.m. for what’s bound to be an epic performance.
