The streets of the Upper Valley were abuzz with action last Friday morning, March 16th, as kids from various pre-schools on the island had the right of way for a colorful annual parade.
The stunning procession, accompanied with the sound of children’s music, commenced at the Agriculture Grounds, then on to Market Street, up the slope of St. Mary’s Drive, on to the Raphael T. Lake Drive, then back down to the starting point.
President of Early Childhood Education, Ms. Itasha Webster, was on hand to comment:
“The month of March is designated as Early Childhood Education month. It is a time to celebrate early childhood education, early childhood teachers, young children, and their families. During his time, various activities are planned and carried out. Every year, around the same time, the early childhood parade takes place in the town area. All preschools and kindergarten classes usually participate in this annual event.
“The children march and dance along the streets in various costumes depicting different themes such as colours, seasons, animals, community workers, shapes, jolly clowns, rainbow, unity and love, living in the classroom, music, numbers, fruits etc. Our overarching theme this year is:” ‘Big Hearts Shaping Little Minds’.
“The parade is always escorted by a Royal Anguilla Police Force guard and followed by an ambulance. In addition, spectators and parents crowd the streets with excitement taking photos and videos.
“After the parade, the young pupils gather around and eagerly wait their turn for the costume display presentation which is then followed by a food fair.”
