On 8th January 2018 the Anguilla Fire Department welcomed 10 new recruits who spent the first two weeks of the month at the Fire Headquarters at Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport.
They were welcomed by members of the department, airport staff and were with familiarized with the aerodrome.
The nine male officers and one female officer have joined the departments existing 52 fire officers bringing the compliment to 62. The new officers will complete an eight weeks training programmed conducted by training officers Junie Fleming and Carlisle Lake, assisted by FSO Shondell Hodge, LFF Lansford Richardson and FF Omari Bourne.
The recruits are: Brittney Webster, Me-Quan Reid, Xavi Brookes, Jaivaurn Bryson Bardouille, Kurtne Patterson, Javon Bryon, El- Jquan Phillips, Lester Seraphine, Tariq Gumbs and Romaro Richardson.
TRAINING
They will take part in extensive practical and theoretical training sessions in first aid, squad drills, hose drills, ladder drills, pump drills, knots and lines, teamwork and communication, extinguishing medias, breathing apparatus, hydrolics, aircraft construction etc.
Acting Chief Fire Officer Shirlon Hughes said the ten new officers were selected from more than 60 applicants. He was certain that they were the most qualified and best suited persons for the profession, after a series of evaluations conducted by Public Administration and the Fire department.
