The 2017 Junior Cycling Championships will be held in Barbados this weekend, October 4-5.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond the Anguilla Cycling Association’s control, Anguilla was unable to send a full team to the event.
However, Zambezi Richardson who has been training in Barbados since July and expected to return home on October 20, was able to extend his time and stay on to be the sole representative at the Championship and will compete on Sunday, November 5, Zambezi in the 55 mile road race which is a 7.8 mile circuit and includes a challenging climb and rapid decent which must be negotiated seven times.
Zambezi not having the help of teammates, will certainly be at a disadvantage but he is in great form and very strong minded and therefore expected to perform well at the event.
Some of the countries represented at the 2017 Championship are Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Bermuda, Belize, Guyana & St. Lucia among others.
The Anguilla Cycling Association expressed much gratitude to veteran Barbados cyclist, Mr. Sedwin Jones who has greatly supported Zambezi over the last few months and so willingly accepted to fill the shoes of Manager at the championships in the absence of an Anguilla Cycling Association representative.
The Anguilla Cycling Association extends best wishes to Zambezi.
