The Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association convened a meeting of their membership including the Hotels, Villas, Restaurants and other Allied members located on The West End of the island to discuss the critical issue of the energization of the western section of the island, the main tourism belt.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. David Gumbs, General Manager of the Anguilla Electricity Company, (ANGLEC) who provided a clear and candid explanation of the issues and concerns in providing electricity to The West End.
Mr. Gumbs outlined the impact of the limitations on human resources, materials and equipment in the face of significant hurricane damage to electrical equipment in Anguilla and the rest of the region.
He reported of Anglec’s collaboration with The Government and Governor’s Office, in seeking UK Government support to source and fund thirty plus linesmen and equipment from Canada in the drive to restore power island-wide within a quicker timeframe. The intent would be to deploy these resources in The West to achieve the goal of island-wide power before Christmas.
We take this opportunity to thank Mr. David Gumbs, who graciously took the time out of his pressed schedule to represent ANGLEC and share much needed information to tourism players who are working to ready themselves to re-open.
The AHTA takes the opportunity to commend Anglec Management and Staff and their supporting Carilec colleagues from around the region, and wish them well as they work tirelessly to move forward with the restoration of electricity.
