According to a release from the UWI Cave Hill School of Business, Ms. Lewis’ thesis is entitled “Determinants of Social Security Compliance in a Small Island Developing State: An Analysis of Anguilla”. As noted in her abstract, the primary objective of the thesis “is to determine what factors contribute to decisions to comply with social security using the small island Caribbean developing state of Anguilla. The study utilises a modified version of the Fischer Tax Compliance Model, using a new dataset derived from questionnaires that focus on both the workers and employers in the formal and informal sectors of Anguilla”.
The thesis was supervised by Professor Nlandu Mamingi from the Faculty of Social Sciences, Cave Hill. The Oral Examination will be chaired by Acting Dean in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Cave Hill, Professor Winston Moore. The Internal Examiner is Professor Karl Theodore from the UWI St. Augustine Campus and Dr. Tarron Kemrah, Associate Professor of Economics from the New College of Florida will serve as the External Examiner.

In extending congratulations, Manager for the UWI Open Campus BOTs, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks, says that Ms. Lewis’ achievement is one that makes the entire UWI family proud and is an accomplishment that Anguillians everywhere can celebrate.

Ms. Maglan Lewis is the Deputy Director of the Social Security Board. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the UWI Cave Hill School of Business.
