24th July 2017- The Valley, Anguilla- The Landsome Bowl Cultural Center filled with ecstatic fans and supporters as FLOW kicked off its 6th Soca Monarch Competition and its first FLOW Soca Rave, powered by Tropical Distributors.With the partnership of Tropical Distributors and the Government of Anguilla yet another successful show of 14 contenders was held on Thursday, August 8th.
Soca artists Headzy, Roxxy, Shea Shea, Mr. Decent (2016 Power and Groovy King), Nukiid, Andy Goddard, Soca Storm, Bookie and Cham, Wiggey, KC, Porkeyman, Daddy Xtra, Big Rash, and Chuckie took the stage in hopes of being crowned the 2017 Soca Monarch King or Queen. After an intense musical battle Big Rash, a first time contender, won both Power and Groovy crowns. The second and third place trophies for the Power category were earned by Mr. Decent and Nukiid respectively. For the Groovy segment, trophies were awarded to Shea Shea for second place and Roxxy for third place.
Not only was there a showcase of local talent, but Soca stars Kenyo (St. Maarten’s 2017 Groovy Monarch) and Luta out of St. Vincent also made special performances. Kenyo sang a crowd favourite “Who Yuh Fuh?”, and Luta pleased the crowd with a throwback of his song “Nooki”.
