Chief Education Officer, Rhonda Connor, and the Department of Education, sent a delegation to the CAPSS (Caribbean Association of Principals of Secondary Schools) Conference this year. Principal Joyce Webster Stuart, and Deputy Principal Mrs. Rita Celestine-Carty, were among the over 150 delegates hosted at the 26th Biennial CAPSS Conference held in New Providence, Bahamas, this summer.
On Tuesday, 25 July, the Conference opened with a parade of flags identifying each island being represented. Under the theme “Quality Leadership Driving Educational Success,” distinguished persons presented information designed to open up frank discussions on leading trends in secondary education – and to present research-based proven strategies and best practices in the areas of culture, technology, and student voice in the context of teaching and learning in secondary schools.
The Conference was timely and the theme supports the initiatives of the Senior Management Team at Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School towards implementing tenets of the Effective Schools Framework. Much of the Conference served to validate our stance on providing positive behavioural supports for our school community, inclusive of our teachers and staff, our students and parents, and our community at large.
As we plan for the upcoming school year, we remain determined to make our vision a reality: to create a school environment where educators and students are respectful, responsible, and resilient – and where learning is valued and creativity and innovation become the norm. This can only occur through partnerships with educators, students, parents, and the community – in a school climate that is positive, warm, predictable and safe, and where the school culture remains progressive embracing ideas and strategies that effect change resulting in a brighter tomorrow.
