As part of its Community Outreach/Give Back commitment, the Anguilla Chapter of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Guild of Students has donated USD$300.00 to the Valley Primary and Orelia Kelly Primary Schools.
On Thursday 6th July, Guild Chair Ms. Kemoloy Murphy and Executive Guild members, Charlene Roach, Soya Ward-Williams and Trevor Queeley presented gift certificates to the Principals Paula Etienne and Jasmine Hodge-Thomas. Speaking on behalf of the Guild, Ms. Murphy said that the UWI Open Campus Guild of Students firmly subscribed to the view that every child should be given the right tools to enhance their experience in the classroom and urged the Principals to direct the resources where they best saw fit.
Both Principal Etienne and Hodge-Thomas warmly welcomed the donations and thanked the UWI Guild of Students for the laudable initiative. According to Teacher Paula, the Orelia Kelly Primary School will be using the timely contribution to assist with the purchase of laptops/tablets for the students.
The UWI Guild Executive is encouraging all students to remain focused on their education while young, as this helps to build a solid foundation for the future. The UWI Guild of Students Anguilla has also committed to continue giving back and contributing to the development of the community in the area of education. Such initiatives will help to inspire students to do their best each semester, the Guild said.
