The Anguilla Library Service recently hosted its Children’s Library Annual Summer Programme (CLASP) 2017 over a two-week period, from Monday 10th July to Friday 21st July, under the theme “Celebrate Anguilla!”. The programme was attended by approximately sixty five (65) children between the ages of five (5) and twelve (12) who were divided into three groups:
Rainbow Troopers – Ages 5 – 6
Rainbow Rebels – Ages 7 – 9
Rainbow Warriors – Ages 10 – 12
This year’s programme was centered on honoring Anguilla’s history as part of the 1967 Revolution’s golden anniversary celebrations. Activities included historical talks on life before, during and after the Revolution, the statehood queen show, old time games, art & craft projects such as kite-making and roller-making, local folk songs and information about the Anguillian dialect. The attendees were treated to beach days and a tour of the island’s heritage sites hosted by the Anguilla National Trust.
As part of the closing programme, an Open Day was held to allow parents and visitors to view the art and craft produced during the last two weeks – as well as an exhibition of yesteryear equipment and utensils, broom-making and ring games.
We would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to our corporate sponsors that quite graciously continue to assist us in implementing this programme.
