HERITAGE FEST @ ALHCS
Since May 2012, the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School has coordinated a day of activities known as Heritage Fest. This year the activities spanned the entire month of May and included participation in the Grand Schools Parade held on Friday 26 May.
Heritage Fest is designed to focus on and highlight cultural practices in Anguilla – both traditional and contemporary. Students also have an opportunity to showcase their creative, performing and other talents. Fun games, artefacts, memorabilia, art, craft, experts on local lore, traditional cooking methods, local food and music – students can experience and interact with all this and much more at Heritage Fest.
In this way the school contributes to the achievement of the specific goals of education related to the development of the ideal Anguillian person – one who possesses a sense of civic responsibility, is culturally aware and imbued with national pride.
A major feature of Heritage Fest is the Heritage Cake annually conceived and produced by teacher and local cake boss, Mrs. Mary Smith. The cakes depict various national symbols and are usually on display throughout the day before being divvied up to the delight of all. Heritage Cake 2017 was displayed at Albert’s Marketplace.
The school looks forward to the continued support of parents, guardians and the general community as we strive to celebrate Anguilla’s heritage and develop the human resources that must commit to its further development.
Do enjoy the Parade of Heritage Cakes 2012-2017.
