The Ronald Webster Park was a scene of bold and attractive Anguillian national colours and a huge crowd, the largest ever attendance, for the Official Parade, on Tuesday, May 30, celebrating the 50th Anniversary or Golden Jubilee of the 1967 Anguilla Revolution. The official tent, the pavilion buildings, and the grounds of the park, were all filled by the huge turnout of citizens from throughout the island – as well as visitors, specially-invited guests and dignitaries from neighbouring islands.
The Honourable Chief Minister, Mr. Victor Banks, who inspected the Parade, and Her Excellency the Governor, Christina Scott, who accompanied him on the decorated podium, took the Royal Salute during the march past. Mr. Banks was accompanied on the inspection tour by the Commanding Officer, Acting Inspector Brian Best, Acting Commissioner of Police, Elliott Forbes; and Contingent Leaders.
The uniformed members of the Parade comprised contingents from the Royal Anguilla Police Force; Her Majesty’s Prison Service; the Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service; Security Service; Cadet Corps; Scouts, Guides and Brownies; Pathfinders; Boys and Girls Brigade; and schoolchildren.
A special drill performance by the Police and the Cadet Corps, as well as the general deportment of all the other Parade contingents, drew much applause from the appreciative spectators.
The Parade certainly set the stage for the rest of the celebratory events for the Golden Jubilee of the Anguilla Revolution.
