The atmosphere at the Vivien Vanterpool Primary School during the period of Anguilla’s 50th anniversary echoed a sense of PRIDE. Throughout the period the staff and students embarked on a number of activities to highlight and showcase aspects of Anguilla’s history and Anguillian pride. In addition to depicting various aspects of the Revolution at the primary schools’ parade, the school hosted local activities some of which included: a history quiz competition, short presentations on the Anguilla Revolution and weekly trivia questions (based on Anguilla’s history) posted to the public on the school’s Facebook page. Mrs. Everett Webster-Jno Baptiste was the grand prize winner. Another highlight of the activities was a classroom door display contest. Teachers were tasked to creatively design and decorate their classroom doors to portray anything Anguillian. The teachers must be commended for a job well done as the doors were spectacular. Teacher Jerica of Grade 3 emerged the winner; in 2nd place was Tr. Deverelle (Grade 2) and 3rd place Tr. Itasha (Kindergarten).
On Thursday 1st June, the school closed the curtain on local history month with a grand Princess and Calypso show under the theme: ‘Celebrating Our Past for a Better Future.’ Four lovely young ladies vied for the title of Miss. VVPS Cultural Princess, in four categories: Introductory Speech, Talent, Cultural Creative Wear and Interview. The large audience that was present, and those who viewed via social media , gave high accolades to the students on their remarkable performances. Cozahnie Webster-Mockett was crowned the first ever Miss. VVPS Cultural Princess. She also captured the titles for: best Cultural Creative Wear, best Introductory Speech and best Interview. Jaecuoya Hughes (First Runner-Up) captured best Introductory Speech and best Creative Wear. Letecia Levenstone and Ronylah Webster (Best Talent) also contributed to the success of the show.
Three students took part in the Calypso show; Jasmine “Singing Jazz’ Abraham (winner), Shonte’ ‘Miss Hope’ Hope and Deron ‘Soca 2’ Harrigan.
