The Department of Youth and Culture and The First Anguilla Sculpture Symposium, Ltd., are planning a special Sculpture Symposium this year scheduled to take place during the whole month of December. It will be themed around the revolution and entitled Golden Jubilee Sculpture Symposium.
Alexandra Harley, who participated in the 2015 Sculpture Symposium in Anguilla, will be coming to Anguilla again to take part in the Jubilee Symposium. Her work from the 2015 symposium, “End Polio Now”, a tribute to Rotary International’s worldwide campaign to eradicate the scourge of polio, is permanently installed at Anguilla’s Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport. Ms Harley will be joined by Anguilla’s own Cheddie Richardson who will be focusing on creating a bronze sculpture of the late Ronald Webster, Anguilla’s first Chief Minister, and “Father of the Nation”.
After the festivities have ended, little but fading memories will be left of the 50 Year Anniversary celebrations. The Sculptures of the Jubilee Sculpture Symposium will provide lasting memories which will survive for many decades. The Heroes of the Revolution will be memorialised in monuments which honour their sacrifices and service to country. The young people of Anguilla will also learn what the men, women and even children of that generation did for the future residents of their island.
