Our Golden Jubilee – a song that pays tribute to our past heroes and heroines of the 1967 Anguilla Revolution has now been published and is being widely played on local radio stations and other social media platforms.
The Words were composed by Mr. Marvin Gumbs, one of Anguilla prolific song writers with arrangement and tune by Lois Hazell and Roger Gittens. The composition is rendered by a 36 strong Golden Jubilee Choir. Recording was at the Anguilla Music Academy at South Hill.
Ms. Hazell says “the song reminds us that together we can achieve anything as a people but always with God in the forefront”. She also indicated that the song would be performed live at the Ecumenical Church Service at Bethel the Road on Sunday May 28th, 2017 and again at the Anguilla Day Parade at the James Ronald Webster Park on Tuesday May 30th, 2017.
OUR GOLDEN JUBILEE
Fifty years, fifty years and moving on,
Anguilla proud and strong and free.
This our fiftieth anniversary, a proud moment in our history,
Celebrate it with pomp and pageantry, Golden Jubilee.
Honour heroes of The Revolution, building on their firm foundation.
We celebrate them with pomp and pageantry, Golden Jubilee.
May the spirit of brotherhood and love, fall on us from The Lord,
Descend on us like rays of peace from above (above)
Chorus:
Let the church bells ring, (Praise Him), and the choirs sing, (Praise Him),
Fifty years are we, (Praise Him), Our Golden Jubilee.
Many storms we faced, (Praise Him), but shielded by His Grace, (Praise Him)
Fifty years are we, (Praise Him), Our Golden Jubilee.
So with God we trod, to our Nationhood,
Fifty years are we, Our Golden Jubilee.
Let your voices rise, to The Lord Most High,
Anguilla strong and free, Our Golden Jubilee.
Going forward together is the key, to climb the stairs of prosperity,
Fairness and justice must be common place, Golden Jubilee.
Come together as we commemorate, stand together as we celebrate,
Our strength will be our unity, Golden Jubilee.
Let hatred, intolerance disappear, let peace reign for more years,
And love and cohesion reign for fifty more years (more years).
Chorus:
Let the church bells ring, (Praise Him), and the choirs sing, (Praise Him),
Fifty years are we, (Praise Him), Our Golden Jubilee.
Many storms we faced, (Praise Him), but shielded by His Grace, (Praise Him),
Fifty years are we, (Praise Him), Our Golden Jubilee.
So with God we trod, (Anguilla we love you), to our Nationhood, (May God bless and keep you),
Fifty years are we, (Celebrating) Our Golden Jubilee.
Let your voices rise, (Anguilla we love you), to the Lord Most High, (May God bless and keep you),
