On May 13, 2017, Anguillian scholar/tennis player, Nzingha Banks, graduated Magna Cum Laude with dual degrees from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. Nzingha, who played for the Washburn Women’s Tennis team for four years, followed a programme which allowed her to fulfill the requirements for, and complete, a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting, as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Finance.
Throughout her university enrollment, Nzingha maintained a high level of performance as a student-athlete. For her outstanding academic accomplishments, she was recognised on the President’s Honor Roll, and was a four-time honoree on the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Student Athlete Academic Honor Roll. Nzingha was also one of twelve senior student-athletes who were awarded the Washburn Graduate Assistant Athletic Scholarship in recognition of her demonstrated leadership as an athletic role model.
In addition, she served as Treasurer for the Washburn Black Student Union and was a community volunteer and an active member of the Beta Alpha Psi Honors Society for scholars majoring in Accounting or Finance. During her final year, she also completed an internship with a Kansas-based CPA firm, where she worked closely with the firm’s CPAs to gain experience in audits, audit reviews and tax.
Nzingha concluded her studies at Washburn with honors from the Beta Alpha Psi, MIAA Honor Roll, the Mortar Board, Alpha Lambda Delta, International House, Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society, and Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges. She is slated to begin her Masters of Accountancy degree with a concentration in Consultancy and IT Advisory at Kansas University in June. Nzingha hopes to complete her Master’s Program and her CPA qualifications in May 2018, before returning to Anguilla.
