A team of some 26 students from the Central Christian School (CCS) journeyed to St. Kitts to particicen1 pate in the CenPOS Invitational Private Schools All Age Track and Field Championships from March 13th – 15th. The students were accompanied by five teachers which included the Principal Mr. Charles Connor, two coaches (Mr. Frankie Claxton and Mr. David Christmas) and ten parents.

Ten schools participated in the Championships. In the primary category Central Christian School secured 6 medals: 2 Gold , 2 Silver and 2 Bronze, putting the school overall in 5th place in that category. In the under 14 (secondary category) CCS secured 8 medals: 1 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze, putting the school in overall 4th place of the six schools participating.
The children put up a great fight. They represented their school and Anguilla very well. The organizers of the events, and the large crowd of spectators, were very impressed with the performance of the students from CCS. In addition to the track and field events, the students did a 5-minute presentation “I represent my school” (a poem about CCS accompanied by a “dance”) which was warmly received by the spectators.

The ten parents who were the cheerleaders, loudly and enthusiastically cheered and supported the students from the spectators stand. The fact that the students knew that the parents were there cheering for Anguilla and CCS really motivated them. All in all, it was a wonderful and memorable experience for everyone who went, especially the students.

Great appreciation is expressed to Mr. Arthur Sharpe, founder of the event, for the invitation and his assistance in making the trip pocen2ssible.

The students and all who attended will have memories of that experience for years to come. There is much anticipation as everyone looks forward to returning in 2018.
