“It’s the most wonderful time of the year,” and in the true spirit of the Christmas season of giving, and its theme for this year’s Social Security Week, the Social Security Board continues to show its social responsibility and commitment to the social development landscape of Anguilla, by providing funding for development programmes and activities in the community.
Recently, the Board made sponsorship cheque presentations in the areas of health education, sports and music education to the following entities:
• The National Chronic Disease Unit (NCDU) of the Ministry of Health, in the amount of US$800.00, as sponsorship towards the NCDU’s first annual lunchtime Chronic Diseases Debating Competition Series within the ALHCS, which were held every Friday from 11th November – 2nd December 2016, during the lunch period. The debates were to assist in raising awareness of chronic diseases affecting persons in Anguilla. The sponsorship funds were used to provide lunch for the debaters and award plaques to the winners of each debate.
• The Anguilla Amateur Basketball Association, in the amount of US$2,400.00, to assist with the hosting of the Leeward Islands Basketball Tournament to be held 13th – 17th December 2016, at the Rodney M. Rey Auditorium at Campus B of the A.L.H.C.S.
• The Ministry of Social Development, on behalf of the A.L.H.C.S. Steel Orchestra, in the amount of EC$46,500.00 for the purchase of Chrome Steel Pans for the A.L.H.C.S. Steel Orchestra. Social Security has been a longtime supporter of music education in Anguilla especially the Steel Orchestra. It was the Board which was instrumental in the development of the Steel Orchestra by providing funding for the very first set of steel pans for the A.L.H.C.S.
These generous contributions were made possible from the Social Security Board’s Development Fund, which was established to allow the Board to contribute to community development programmes and activities in the fields of education, health, sports and culture.
