Fellow Anguillians. We have learned today, with great sadness, that our beloved Father of the Nation, James Ronald Webster, has departed this life.
When Anguilla faced its darkest hours, under the oppression of Robert Bradshaw, and Anguillians were in despair for their future, a generous Providence gave us James Ronald Webster.
As long as memories are kept alive of that time of terrible danger and of the men and women who, with him, won the victory for us, the name of James Ronald Webster will live.
Let us give thanks that we knew him and that we loved him and he loved Anguilla. With our grief let there be gratitude for a life so fully lived, for services so outstanding, and for the continuing keen interest he took in Anguilla’s destiny until the very last.
The people of Anguilla and of the diaspora, and his thousands of friends and fellow Anguillians will pray for God’s eternal blessing on this man, and for comfort to his family. I take this opportunity to express my condolences to his dear wife Cleo and his children and family.
James Ronald Webster is indeed the Father of the Nation and History’s child, and what he said and what he did for Anguilla and our People will never die.
May his memory be forever blessed and may God bless Anguilla always.
