ANGUILLA PLACES THIRD IN LEEWARD ISLAND BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Team Anguilla

The Leeward Island Basketball Championships concluded on Saturday December 17th witnessed by a packed auditorium.
On Monday December 12th the Anguilla LIBC Organizing Committee welcomed 5 teams from Barbuda, St. Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat and BVI. These teams would go up against Anguilla in a battle for the Championship trophy.

Tuesday December 13th was the Opening Ceremony and the first two games. Game one saw a win by BVI over Barbuda, 66-56, and in Game two Anguilla beat Nevis, 78-52.

Wednesday December 14th
Game one St. Kitts dominated in their first game against Barbuda, 65-45 while in Game two Anguilla continued their winning streak going up against Montserrat and ending with a score of 66-53.

Thursday December 15th
Game one Montserrat smashed Nevis in the highest scoring game of the Tournament, 96-61 and in Game two St. Kitts were 2 for 2 beating the BVI 77-64.

Friday December 16th
Game one saw one of the most heart wrenching games as Anguilla went up against the BVI. The game was forced into overtime twice and eventually to the dismay of the home crowd BVI won 85-78. Game two St. Kitts refused to buckle and again walked away with a win, 64-52.

Saturday December 17th Championships night
In game one Anguilla fought one more time against Montserrat to keep the third place trophy home and were victorious, 83-77. Game two, the clash of the champions, BVI vs St. Kitts. St. Kitts showed why they had dominated for the entire tournament and BVI couldn’t manage to shake them off. St. Kitts got the win, 73-57.

3rd Place – Team Anguilla
2nd Place – Team BVI
1st Place – Team St. Kitts

Overall the LIBA tournament was a success. Through this medium the Organizing Committee which consisted of Lisa Rey, Roxana Brooks, Kennelva Brooks, Rudy Webster, Mirabelle West, Eldon Webster, Ian ‘Tucker’ Connor, Delano Mussington, Javille Brooks, Jason Hodge, Merrick Richardson, and Cuthbert Jackson would like to thank everyone who supported the #DreamTeam#TeamDolphins whether you were at home or abroad!
It was through your support that they managed to push as hard as we did and keep the 3rd place trophy home!
Our list of sponsors and supporters are endless but we’d like to highlight them so they as well can be recognized for seeing the potential we had, as well as the need to revive the sport on island.
Our dream of an indoor facility was brought to reality!
