We would have prepared not to depict the theme that was presented to us (Defying Gravity Halloween) by the host of “Grenada Cake Wars”. However by the time it was released to us, it was too late. Our participant decided not to back down, but to run towards the battle like “David” did, and perform.
Over the past few weeks I have been informing you, the general public, about the invitation which was extended to us, the “Extreme Bake Off Team”, to compete in “Grenada Cake Wars”. This initiative continued via other media houses, namely, Upbeat Radio, Radio Anguilla and Kool FM respectively. I felt that this was necessary to educate you because usually the event, “Extreme Bake Off”, would have taken place this October in Anguilla.
I would like to officially congratulate the “Extreme Bake Off Team” (“Team Anguilla”) for placing first, with a tremendous win, in the “Grenada Cake Wars” event which took place in Grand Anse, Grenada, on Saturday October 29th, 2016. Thank God for His favour and traveling mercies! Anguilla shared the stage with great friends such as Jadie and colleague of Jadies Edibles Grenada, Mrs Kerlene Ransome and two of her students of the School of Sugar Artistry in Trinidad & Tobago. Mr Dean Samuel, our very own, was selected to sit on the panel of four judges selected from Spice Isle Grenada. The experience that we all shared together was nothing short of an adventure beyond our wildest dreams. Team Anguilla left the island with a goal, and that was to represent little Anguilla, “our rock”, with excellence. This was executed well by Mary and helper Clive Smith who were the ones who participated.
We are looking forward to welcoming to Anguilla all interested bakers from the region and beyond to be a part of Extreme Bake 2017. Please note that a date and venue will be confirmed later. It would be extremely nice to see our neighbouring island St Martin/St Maarten represented. An invitation has already been extended to Team Grenada and Team Trinidad. With that said, I wish to encourage those of you who can assist to make the comfort of our guest a reality – to volunteer your services whereever needed. It’s a movement Anguilla! I know that it will be a lot of hard work but I am already getting excited! Remember as long as we are a team there is nothing that we put our minds to that will not be accomplished. What must be noted is that when our guests register to be with us, that their first impression of Anguilla will last with them. We would want to make them feel genuinely appreciated, welcomed and honored. On our end, getting to Grenada presented its own set of challenges and the sacrifices that were made seemed to be endless.
Once again, we truly wish to say thank you to all who assisted to make our travel a reality. Thank God! Thanks to the general public for your support, and other persons such as our immediate families; Ronya Foy Connor; travel agent, Asher Joseph of LIATs staff and Shiren Paul; bakers Elridge Richardson, Laurell Connor and Charmel Gumbs. Thanks also is extended to Tiffany Moore and The Anguillian newspaper for carrying our articles.
