The privately-run Central Christian School held its Annual Service on Sunday, November 20, to highlight the success of the governing board, teachers, and students over the years.
The Principal, Mr. Charles Connor, told the capacity congregation at the Central Baptist Church: “The school came into existence in 2000. It began initially as a preschool. The following year it took on the beginnings of a primary school…Since then, it has evolved into a fully-fledged primary educational institution comprising a preschool and a primary section. The grades range from K3 to Grade 6. The school’s motto continues to be Education for Time and Eternity.”
Mr. Connor, a former Coordinator of Adult Education in the Anguilla Public Service, continued: “Over the years the Central Christian School has made, and continues to make, a significant contribution to the social, educational and spiritual development of the Anguillian society. Hundreds of children would have passed through this school in the sixteen years of its existence. All of them would have heard, and would have been exposed to, the word of God on a regular basis.”
He outlined the various activities in which the school is actively involved – including its transition, in a large measure, to the national education system and the Test of Standards. He was particularly delighted that the school was among those in the public sector which were included in the Primary School Awards Ceremony on Thursday, November 17. “The Central Christian School performed creditably,” he reported. “Six students from our school were successful in the awards and this is an accomplishment. We received a total of 18 awards.”
The students, who received awards, were:
Grade 3: Cajeah Bryan, first place in Language; Social Studies and Science; Draidahan Lico, 4th place in Social Studies; and Gerron Simpson: 2nd place in Language; Grade 5: Lyse-Andria Franklin, first place in Mathematics; 2nd place in Science; and 3rd place in Social Studies; Grade 6: Aaron Campbell, 4th place in Science; and Dejanae Christmas, 3rd place in Social Studies and 5th place in Mathematics. In the top 5 students overall awards, Dejanae Christmas placed 4th; Lyse-Andria Franklin, 2nd; and Cajeah Bryan, 1st. In the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment, Dajanae Christmas placed 3rd.
The board, teachers, parents and students were commended by Mr. Connor, the Principal; Pastor Dwayne Adams and retired Pastor, Cecil Richardson, who delivered the sermon.
Pastor Richardson, who, in his forty years of ministry, oversaw both the establishment of the Central Baptist Church and the Central Christian School, said in part: “I want to say thanks to the Principal, Charlie Connor, for his good work in leading the school, and the teachers. We also thank the parents for trusting us with your children and allowing us to help you build the foundation that they need for the years ahead. In addition, I want to tell the children how proud we are of you. We are grateful to have a little influence in your life at the school.”
Pastor Richardson continued: “Wherever I go on this island, I run into past students. It is rewarding to look back and to thank God that we had some influence in establishing the foundation in those individuals’ lives. That’s what it is all about: helping to build character and installing values and principles in the lives of our young men and young women.”
