The Boy Scouts of America were the hosts for the 5th Interamerican Scouts’ Youth Forum at Sea Scout Base in Galveston, Texas, from October 22 to 26th. The Anguilla Scouts Association was represented by Sherisma Richardson and Khahani Gumbs of the Venture Scouts troop in The Valley.
As young scouts, opportunities are often provided to influence what their tomorrow will look like. The Youth Forum provided the opportunity to address important issues that impact the lives of the millions of scouts in the Interamerican region. Discussions centered on ideas and concerns that affect each of the country’s scouting programs, how to grow membership and enrich the program – and provide meaningful training opportunities. The Forum was a great opportunity for Shersima and Khahani to get involved in the decision-making process of the Scout Movement in the Interamerican Scout Region, to set goals and put in place plans in order to stimulate the development of the Scout movement within the region. Topics included: Dialogue dimension, conflict resolutions, Dialogue principles and skills, and Forms of Dialogue and Dialogue in practice, Better World Platform and Diversity and Inclusion.
The Anguilla Scouts interacted with scouts from thirty three (33) countries of North America, South America, Central America, and the Caribbean that make up the Interamerican Region. The Interamerican Region is one of the six regions of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM).
The Anguilla Scouts’ Association is grateful to all for the financial support given by members of the public to their fundraising activities. The funds raised enabled these two young scouts to take advantage of another opportunity that will contribute to their positive development.
