The Quintessence Boutique Hotel in Long Bay, Anguilla, is now home to a giant white rose sculpture. The new hotel invested one million dollars in its landscaping and holds two million dollars, of Haitian art. The hotel’s design is reminiscent of the island’s old Malliouhana Hotel and they vaunt the slogan, “I do it once because I do it right.” Its grand opening will be on November 15th, 2016. Multi-disciplined artist Khachick Bozoghlian gifted the rose to the hotel last December.
Khachick, best known for his exciting figurative bronze sculptures, currently resides in New York City and came up with the idea of the rose on a whim: “I wanted to have something big to say here I am in Anguilla. I’ve been coming to Anguilla for forty years [and], I have an amazing connection with Anguilla!”
The giant rose overlooks the main entrance of the building. Its smooth fiberglass finish, polished shine, and tremendous size make it a sure attraction. The rose was made using a reverse mold, and weighs a hefty eight hundred pounds.
The art piece is the first in an edition of three and can be seen up close on the hotel’s stairway.
