Many adults and children across Anguilla have benefitted from a series of activities as Caribbean Wellness Day was observed on the island from September 9 to 16.
The most patronised event was a Health Fair on the grounds of the Scouts and Guides Ruthwill Auditorium on the final day from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. There, or at the hospital, persons received or were registered, as the case may be, for health checks and advice on blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, PSA, BMI (Body Mass Index), vision care, foot care, pap smears, prostate cancer, sexual health and health counselling.
The sponsors of the Health Fair were Medical Air Services Association, FLOW Telecommunications, the Anguilla Electricity Company, the Health Authority of Anguilla and the Anguilla Cancer Association.
Those who delivered addresses at the opening ceremony were: Mr. George Brown, Chief Executive Officer with the Health Authority; Dr. Sherlan Richardson, Internist; Ms. Twyla Bradshaw-Richardson, Director of the Chronic Disease Unit who spoke on behalf of the Minister of Social Development, Mr. Evans McNiel Rogers; and Mr. Donald Curtis, Manager of Medical Air Services Association.
The event was organised by Mrs. Jennifer Gumbs, Senior Health Educator and President of the Anguilla Cancer Association. She said the Health Fair was very well attended by adults who benefitted much from the various tests, and advice provided to them.
