An eight-week in-service training course is in progress for the security officers employed by Armour Guard, a company established and operated by former Commissioner of Police in Anguilla, Mr. Mitchell Harrigan.
The course is being conducted at the Anguilla Community College by JNH Professional Training Institute whose principals are Mr. and Mrs. Neville Hamilton.
“It is with great honour that I invite everyone to the first training programme for JNH Professional Training Institute,” Mr. Hamilton told the gathering. “We salute Mr. Harrigan, owner of Armour Guard Security Services, for his initiative to ensure that his employees receive the necessary training to enhance their performance to serve his customers. Ten of the security officers will be undergoing eight weeks of security training. The classes will be conducted twice weekly. Some of the topics to be covered are general aspects of security; communication; statement writing; report writing; professional conduct; resolving conflict; role conflict; drugs and their effects.

“During this training, the security officers will be challenged theoretically and practically to prepare them for better service. The training will be conducted in an appropriate setting conducive to learning right here at the Community College. JNH Professional Training Institute seeks to offer short certificate courses for our customers. Our hope is to create a positive working environment within the workplace.”

Replying, Mr. Harrigan said a number of his security officers had been trained previously but they, and others, were now being trained in new techniques. “I want to say to the officers that the fact that you are here is because you need certain training to carry out your job efficiently and effectively. It would be remiss of me not to provide that training for you – else I would not be a good example and leader and would not deserve the clientele I have. You are now expected, at my expense, to grasp the training being given to you. Mr. Hamilton is a no-nonsense person. He has been trained extensively and to train you will be of much assistance to you.”

Armour Guard was formed in Anguilla in 1999 and has a current membership of 23 officers. The company provides armed or unarmed protection, money transfers and security services at supermarkets and other places on the island.

JNH Professional Training Institute is a registered company in Anguilla. Mr. Hamilton is a former Control and Restraint Instructor, and Administration Officer at Her Majesty’s Prison and is a part-time Special Constable in the Royal Anguilla Police Force.

The Vote of Thanks at the opening ceremony was delivered by his wife, Mrs. Tracelyn Hamilton.
