Anguilla clinches berth in Second Round of FIVB World Cup Qualifiers

Anguilla’s men returned home On Monday 12th August 2016, from Antigua, having earned a berth into the second round of the FIVB World Cup Qualifiers, despite an epic battle with host Antigua and Barbuda that resulted in 3: 1 defeat. The team walked away with the silver medal and several individual awards:

Best Setter Captain Ian Connor
Best Receiver and Best Outside hitter Sherwin Richardson
Best Libero Kevin Gumbs
Earlier in the tournament, Anguilla inflicted severe defeats on St. Eustatius and Montserrat. These victories enabled them to meet Antigua in the epic battle. According to reports, members of the Anguilla team acquitted themselves rather admirably as they gave their great nemesis a scare of their lives.

The Anguilla Amateur Volleyball Association (AAVA) would like to congratulate the coaches and team on their efforts and wishes them success in the second round. The AAVA would also like to thank the Sports Department and the various persons who supported the breakfast fundraisers.
