Unprecedented numbers of children participated in a day of fun and community camaraderie on Saturday September 3rd 2016. Sunset Homes, a Property Development firm in Anguilla, was proud to declare its fourteenth anniversary of sponsorship and coordination of this annual event, on its office grounds located in Stoney Ground, for the families of the neighbouring villages. The event’s concept centered on a Fun Fair operated by Sunset Homes and partnering community and corporate organisations, where there were several booths filled with games, contests, lucky dips, hoola hooping, math games, spelling quizzes, juggling games, art and craft, face painting, an icecream truck visit and food and beverages. One of the highlights of the day was an awesome display and educational show by the energetic fire fighters from Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service. The children were thrilled as they learned about the role of the fire fighters, the features and capabilities of their fire truck and fire safety. The eagerly anticipated the Tug-o-War culminated the proceedings where old and young joined in to jostle and pull with all their might, for the grand prize of bragging rights. All refreshments, prizes and games were provided complimentary to the children.

This event comes out of an active cooperation within the community, reminiscent of traditional communal activities where villagers come together to work on select projects. Members of the community in the area help prepare for this event. The event aims to encourage community spirit and to provide a stimulating, productive activity for the children where they can win educational prizes. Over 150 children and their families were present, and all children in attendance received school and sports supplies ranging from back packs, scientific calculators, geometry sets, exercise books, stationery, footballs, games and more.

Appreciation goes out to all the persons who gave so generously of their time and resources including: Games Director Alfred “Allie” Douglas, Coach Miguel Walker, Emcee Remy Minette, Chief Coordinator Charlene Roach, Community partner Joan Johnson, and Athnel Robertson, Wilton Ozaria and the rest of Sunset Homes staff.

Special mention must be made of the very generous donation made by Joseph “Joe-B” Williams and Kathareen Rogers who sent a wonderful array of special educational gifts and supplies for the children. These two persons are Anguillians living in the US who continue to contribute to the children of this community through various programs and events. Tropical Shipping also provided a wonderful range of supplies for the children.

Stellar support was received from supporting sponsors including FLOW, Haskins Ltd., Brother Lee and his Team at KOOL FM and The Anguillian newspaper, Anguilla Fire & Rescue Services, Robert and Loren Pearson, Villa Kai, Alegria Villa, Beaches Edge Villas, Tropical Treats, Canita Ruan, Anguilla Football Association, Best Buy Supermarket, Watson Hodge/Caracasbaii, Lawrence “Big Time” Hodge, Merchant’s Market, Ciao Café, Essential Office Services, Branches of Learning, J.W Proctors, Mary’s Bakery, Pastor Dexter Welcome and the Dominion Faith Centre, Ivor and Carmen Gumbs, Essential Office Services, Albert’s Marketplace, Ms. Collette Jones-Chin, Royal Anguilla Police Force, Confetti Dust, Syd & Pete’s Supermarket, , Dahlia Shields, Dr. Indira Singh, Safe Cargo, Ercilia, Jasmin, Francia, Tati, Celestine, Negra, Cassie, Keisha, Nandi, Zoey, Zariah, Latoya and family.

The Sunset Homes team looks forward to continuing the legacy for the upcoming 15th year of community camaraderie.
