Nine exciting workshops, some of several weeks’ duration, which began on July 11 and will end on August 19, have been keeping many youngsters extremely busy during the summer holidays.
The workshops were organised by the Ministry of Social Development and the Department of Youth and Culture. The different practical learning opportunities are part of the 8th Youth Educational Summer Creative Arts Production and Entertainment programme code-named Youth E.S.C.A.P.E.
The Anguillian visited four of the exhibitions which followed the workshops. The first was in culinary arts (cake-making and decorating) facilitated by Mrs. Charmaine Richardson of the Food and Nutrition Lab at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School; the second was in digital creative animation facilitated by Mr. Hubert Lapointe of Canada; the third was in sewing (skirt, shirt and pillow-making) conducted by Mrs. Jasmine Elijah, who describes herself as a stylist; and the fourth was in arts and crafts (including pottery) coordinated by Mrs. Melsadis Fleming, Deputy Principal, Campus B.
The other workshops, facilitated by several persons, were in calypso, drumming, marine heritage, digital film production, digital music production, and digital apps development.
According to a statement from the Department of Youth and Culture, “the object of Youth E.S.C.A.P.E. is to develop the knowledge and skills of school-aged youth in the arts, and to involve them in culturally relevant activities using creative and innovative methodologies”.
