On Friday 19 August 2016 the Department of Youth and Culture (DYC), concluded the last of a series of very successful workshops which formed part of the 8th Youth E.S.C.A.P.E. (Educational Summer Creative Arts Production and Entertainment) Programme.
The last workshop was the exciting and educational Marine Heritage Workshop which was organised and facilitated by the personnel at the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources. The programme included swimming and water safety tips, coral and fish identification (including the invasive Lion Fish), a land and coastal patrol and mangrove hike, turtle captures and tagging and guest lectures on climate change and Anguilla’s maritime heritage.
In this year’s Youth E.S.C.A.P.E. there were a total of nine (9) workshops which exposed over 200 participants to a wide variety of artistic and cultural experiences including training in calypso writing, and singing; drumming; pottery; cake-making and decorating; film and music production and animation and apps development, all of which included hands-on, practical components and field trips were applicable.
The objective of Youth E.S.C.A.P.E. is to develop the knowledge and skills of school-aged youth in the arts and to involve them in culturally relevant activities using creative and innovative methodologies. The Department of Youth and Culture wishes to thank all the parents and guardians who registered their children to participate in the various workshops as well as the many supportive facilitators who helped to make the workshops exciting, educational and fun experiences for the children.
