ANGUILLA OUT-PERFORMS ISLANDS IN SOME EXAM RESULTS

The packed Teachers’ Resource Centre exploded in applause every time Anguilla’s students out-performed their regional counterparts or otherwise did very well as the results of the CAPE and CSEC examinations were delivered. The event was the official release of the May/June 2016 results, done in a power point presentation. The date was Friday, August 12, and the able presenter was Mr. Glenroy Cumberbatch, the CXC Registrar of Barbados.

Some of the subjects in which the Anguillian students scored high percentage grades were as follows: CAPE Applied Mathematics Unit 1: Anguilla 71% in 2015 compared with 100% in 2016 – an increase of 29%. The region scored 91% both in 2015 and 2016. Anguilla performed above average in the subject.

CAPE Building & Mechanical Engineering Unit 1: Anguilla 100% compared with the region’s 86%. Anguilla performed above average with an increase of 14%.
CAPE Building & Mechanical Engineering Unit 2: Anguilla 100% in 2016 compared with the region’s 76%. Anguilla performed 24% above the region’s average.

CAPE Communications: Anguilla 95% in 2015 compared with 98% in 2016; and the region 98% in 2015 and 97% in 2016. Anguilla performed above average in the subject.

CAPE Management of Business Unit 2: Anguilla 98% in 2015 compared with 100% in 2016; and the region 96% in 2015 compared with 100% in 2016. Anguilla performed above average in the subject.

CAPE Physical Education and Sport: Anguilla 91% in 2015 compared with 100% in 2016. The region: 99% in 2015 and 98% in 2016. Anguilla performed above average.

CAPE Pure Mathematics Unit 1: Anguilla 36% in 2015 and 71% in 2016. The region: 65% in 2015 and 70% in 2016. The region: 65% in 2015 and 70% in 2016. Anguilla performed above average in the subject.

CAPE Entrepreneurship Unit 1: Anguilla 94% in 2015 compared with 100% in 2016. The region: 96% in 2015 and 98% in 2016. Anguilla performed above average.
CAPE Environmental Science Unit 1: Anguilla 100% both in 2015 and 2016. Anguilla performed above average.

CSEC Music: Anguilla 100% both in 2015 and 2016. The region: 72% in 2015 and 81% in 2016. Anguilla performed above average.

CSEC Information Technology: Anguilla 78% in 2015 and 85% in 2016 – an increase of 7 per cent. The region: 88% in 2015 and 78 % in 2016. Anguilla performed better in the subject.

CSEC Comparison of Performance: Overall, Anguilla’s performance was marginally above the region’s average. The region recorded 64% acceptable grades, while Anguilla recorded 70 % acceptable grades – a positive difference of 6%.
