A trained and experienced Anguillian chef is making a name for himself in the United Kingdom.
He is Mr. Kerth Gumbs, son of Mr. Neville Gumbs and Ms. Daphine Rogers of The Quarter. This son of the soil is to be Head Chef when Ormer Mayfair, an upscale restaurant, opens in London in September. The restaurant will be housed in the newly-refurbished five-star Flemings Mayfair Hotel.
Kerth Gumbs left Anguilla in 2004 for the UK where he pursued culinary studies. He graduated from Le Gordon Bleu where he obtained a Grand Diploma in French cuisine and patisserie. Before obtaining the position of Head Chef at Ormer Mayfair, which makes him one of London’s top chefs, he worked at The Arts Club in Dover. He spent two years with Jason Atherton overseas and held chef positions at The Wolseley, L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon, and Tom Aikens.
Gumbs is among an experienced management and staff team at Ormer Restaurant. The team includes Restaurant Manager, Agnieszka Josko, who previously worked with several top class restaurants and Head Sommelier, Andreas Rosendal, who held the same position at a number of other leading restaurants.
THE Ormer Mayfair Restaurant will form part of a fifteen million pound sterling refurbishment currently taking place at Flemings Mayfair Hotel, a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World Group.
