A packed Central Baptist Church cheered on the 2016 graduates of the Central Christian School as they were told to “reach for the stars” at a graduation ceremony held on Monday 4th July, 2016.
Among the awardees were Valedictorian, Dejanae Christmas and Salutatorian, Aaron Campbell. Special Awards: Language Arts- Dejanae Christmas, Aaron Campbell, Shaequanique Hanley, Vidaijah Richardson and Tajah Carter. Mathematics – Dejanae Christmas, Aaron Campbell and Shaequanique Hanley. Science – Dejanae Christmas, Aaron Campbell, Shaequanique Hanley and Vidaijah Richardson. Social Studies – Dejanae Christmas, Aaron Campbell, Shaequanique Hanley and Vidaijah Richardson.
Students also received awards for Most Improved Student: Tajah Carter and Leandre Sutherland. Most Helpful: Tafari Richardson and Xanaeya Harrigan-Smith. Sports: Daemikwa Wallace, Jahlik Richard and Shaequanique Hanley. Attendance & Punctuality: Verejay Hodge. Art: Aaron Campbell. Phenomenal Reader Award: Aaron Campbell, Shaequanique Hanley, Vidaijah Richardson, Dejanae Christmas, Leandre Sutherland and Tajah Carter. Most Improved Readers: Jahlik Richard, Daemikwa Wallace and yurisleydy Michel-Morales.
In honour of former teacher Violet Blake, who recently passed away, the school decided to award five students who represented her values and morals. They were Aaron Campbell, Verjay Hodge, Xanaeya Harrigan-Smith, Vidaijah Richardson and Tajah Carter.
The ceremony which was chaired by Pastor Cecil Richardon included addresses by Principal Mr. C. Connor. The keynote speaker was Mrs. Patricia Adams who reminded the students to “always remember this theme ‘Reaching for the Stars’, This is your stage of planting your seed, and I urge you to plant now. Don’t be discouraged if someone reaches their goal before you”.
Pastor Dwayne Adams in his opening remarks said: “A solid primary education is one of the pillars in a great secondary education. The [school] board’s advice to the students is to always seek the Lord for support”.
The students, along with others graduating at primary across the island, will embark on the journey to secondary education in September, at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School.
