Spectacular fireworks lit up the western sky over Viceroy Anguilla in the vicinity of the Sunset Lounge Pool where a mass food and music party was held on Monday, July 4th. Hundreds of people gazed up to view the arresting fireworks display set off at nearby Barnes Bay – a safe distance away.
The event commemorated 240 years since America’s independence from Great Britain. It provided much entertainment for the large number of Anguillians, and many more American visitors and guests of the resort, in attendance.
Viceroy’s General Manager, Mr. Jon Gersonde, spoke to The Anguillian: “We have Omalie 360 playing until 8.30 and then we will have DJ Sugar playing after – and we will be busy later,” he said at the height of the musical performance and an abundance of food displays. We are trying to entertain our local audience as well as our in-house guests.”
Mr. Gonsonde who, at the time, was with his wife, Mrs. Gonsonde, and the Resort Manager, Mr. Andreas Naegele, continued: “Most of our guests are Americans who want to celebrate the 4th of July. We know it is not an Anguillian holiday but, for these guests, it is a big deal. In America, it is a big deal. Every year we do two big events here at Viceroy: Festive [around Christmas] and the 4th of July with fireworks.”
