On the evening of Friday June 10th, 2016, Anguilla joined the rest of the world to officially mark the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II who became the longest-reigning British monarch on 9th September 2015 when she surpassed the reign of her great great grandmother, Victoria.

Patrons showed up to Government House in their numbers dressed rather smartly in their suits and dresses, some well decorated with their badges and medals of honour to mark the special occasion. Her Majesty Governor, Christina Scott, welcomed everyone to the momentous occasion. The Governor also shared the story of how the Queen (then an 18-year-old princess) successfully persuaded her father to allow her to join the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service where she was a mechanic and military truck driver during World War II.

The highlight of the reception and sunset ceremony was the flag ceremony and salute by the Royal Anguilla Police Force.

Attendees joined Sgt. Randy Javois in his special honourary moment as he was awarded the colonial police long service medal in recognition of his eighteen years of public service in Anguilla.
