The National Disaster Management Committee through the Mitigation Working Group of its Strategic Planning Sub Committee conducted a Hazard Identification Training Workshop on Friday 29th April, 2016, at the Joannis Conference room of Viceroy Hotel and Resort for employees in the Tourism Sector.
The 22 participants were employees drawn from Cuisinart Hotel, Viceroy Hotel, Carimar Hotel, CapJuluca Hotel and Ce-Blue Resort.
The training was facilitated by Messrs. Omari Bourne and Carlisle Lake from the Anguilla Fire & Rescue Service, Kasseem Forde from the Department of Physical Planning and Mr. Alwyn Richardson from the Department of Disaster Management.
The main objectives of the awareness training were to provide instruction pertaining to:
• Identifying how workplace injuries or illnesses can affect your everyday life.
• Identifying and recognising the exposures and hazards linked to work-related illnesses and injuries.
• Developing solutions and strategies to address these identified hazards inclusive of Fire Prevention, Safety and Evacuation planning and;
• Improving Electrical Safety awareness of potential electrical hazards that might exist in the workplace, and how to instill applicable electrical safety principles, acceptable work practices and engineered controls.
The expected benefits of the training are the prevention of injury and accidents, loss of life and serious damage to property within the work environment.
The Mitigation Working Group wishes to thank The Executive Management Team of Viceroy Hotel & Resort for providing their facility to conduct the training as well as their continued partnership in risk reduction and mitigation initiatives. The Mitigation Working Group also wishes to thank the participants of the training and further reinforces its’ commitment to presenting additional awareness training in the future.
