QUIZ
Winning Students

On Wednesday 20th April, 2016, twenty students from the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School competed in the “Annual Healthy Lifestyles Inter-house School Quiz Competition.” This competition is sponsored by the Health Authority of Anguilla and is a collaborative effort between the Nutrition and Health Promotion Department and the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School, to improve health awareness among adolescence in our community. The Quiz is conducted in three phases. The first focuses on improving health awareness by educating the students on various health related topics. This is conducted by health professionals who facilitate education sessions and demonstrations during the Personal Social Health Education (PSHE) classes for all 4th Form students over a six week period.
In phase two, students’ aptitude for participation in the Quiz are evaluated by conducting a Preliminary test. Students from the five houses with the highest overall scores are then selected for participation.
Phase three is the hosting of the Annual Healthy Lifestyles Inter-house School Quiz which was held at the Rodney MacArthur Rey Auditorium. Alliqua Gumbs of Maroon House emerged victorious as the individual champion and was awarded a prize sponsored by Coral Reef Bookstore. At the end of this keenly contested competition, Maroon House placed third and received a gift from Unique Supplies and the Health Authority. In second place was Pink House which received a gift basket compliments of the Health Authority. Yellow House emerged as the overall winner of the closely contested competition. The winners, Jariah Bartlett, Chamika Richards, Kamal Vanterpool and Rojann Forbes, were each presented with a $100 book voucher sponsored by the Health Authority of Anguilla. The first place winners also received a free lunch from Andy’s Restaurant in The Quarter.
On behalf of the Health Authority of Anguilla, the Nutrition and Health Promotion Department extends a hearty thank you to the following individuals and organizations: ALHCS Staff Members – Mrs. Anita Ruan, Mrs. Joyce Webster Stuart, Ms. Tashanta Brooks, Mrs. Patsie Frederick Wattley, Mrs. Shermine Adams and Ms. Melissa Hamm. Health Authority of Anguilla staff: Mrs. Florence Harrigan, Mrs. Lynette Carty, Mr. McMillan Thomas, Ms. Campbell, Ms. Bartlette, Ms. Roberts and Mrs. Gumbs. The Department also extends special thanks to Mr. Bernard Wattley who so ably moderated the Quiz for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to the proprietors of Coral Reef Bookstore, Unique Supplies and Andy’s Restaurant for their donations towards this year’s Quiz Competition. We look forward to your continued support in the future.
