On Wednesday April 20th, 2016, taxi drivers from across the island accepted an invitation from Cap Juluca Hotel to attend an annual tasting for the new menu at Spice and Pimms Restaurants. The taxi drivers relaxed and socialised as they were served by the dedicated and professional staff. The items sampled included appetisers and entrees such as lamb and venison.
When asked about the inspiration for the new menu, the Executive Chef and Director of Food and Beverage Juan Bochenski said “My background is Argentinian and Latin so I combined Latin flavours with my experience which is European and Australian to create new items. I know a lot of people look for fish or lobster but it is also good to have a balance of different items so that is why we have included new items like venison. Come and visit Spice and the other restaurants at Cap Juluca.”
Kevin Carty, Manager of Operations shared the motivation behind inviting the taxi drivers to be among the first to sample the menu. He said:
“When we start with a new menu, the first people we have taste the new menu after the staff is always the taxi drivers. It is important that we have the taxi drivers come as they are the ambassadors for the tourism industry on the island. They know all the resorts and all the restaurants. They eat at most of the restaurants and they are independently employed people. Their opinion matters because they don’t have a reason to lie. They can’t afford to lie to their guests, so when they give their opinion, it is generally an honest one. If this evening was not good, they would tell you it wasn’t good. Then we would know we have work to do. Taxi drivers are the best acid test for your product. They are brutally honest and you have to appreciate that. They are some of the most important salespeople for any business on the island, so it is nice to get an honest opinion from honest folk.”
The President of the Anguilla Taxi Drivers Association, Mr. Wilmoth Hodge shared his appreciation for Cap Juluca’s gesture. He said, “We always welcome Cap Juluca’s invitation to come and share their newest menu. This afternoon the taxi drivers were very pleased with the new offerings that they have on their menu for the season 2016/2017. As usual this gesture is good as it enables taxi drivers to share their experience with the clients and give them the privilege of sharing in the CapJuluca experience, at Spice in particular. We were happy to be here and the feedback from those who were here is that we love what we experienced.”
Cap Juluca’s new menus are available and the General Public is invited to come by and sample the delectable dishes.
